How Vela Lume works — and who's behind it

Trust matters in a health-adjacent space. Here's how we write, check, and own our content.

Who created Vela Lume

Vela Lume was founded by Joruthy Boliguen, a woman living through her own perimenopause — after a 3 a.m. moment of feeling alone, soaked, and under-informed. It is built and run today by a small, women-led team who are in this chapter too. Read the founder story.

Why the brand exists

Most menopause information treats you like a patient chart or a punchline — heavy on jargon, light on honesty, and silent on the parts that feel messy. We fill the gap between clinical fact and lived experience: a warm, evidence-anchored place where the woman you are right now is the starting point, not an afterthought.

What experience informs the content

Our content draws on three things: lived experience from women in this chapter, published and cited research, and questions from our community. We are writers and editors, not medical professionals. Where a medically qualified reviewer or contributor is involved with a specific article, that person is named on the article and listed on our Author Profiles. Every health claim is tied to a source — see our Sources & Citations policy.

What's educational, not diagnostic

We cover symptom explanations, daily routines, nutrition, sleep, stress, relationships, and self-care — all of it educational. We do not diagnose conditions, prescribe or recommend treatments for you, interpret your labs, or replace a clinician who knows your history. Always make decisions with your own provider. Read the medical disclaimer.

Who reviews medically oriented content

Medically oriented pieces go through editorial review for clarity, balance, and an honest read of the evidence. Where a medically qualified reviewer is involved, that reviewer is named on the piece. Vela Lume does not claim to be a medical authority or an institution of record — we are simply clear about who did what, on which article. See our medical review process.
